American singer Chris Brown was stopped by Philippine immigration officers from leaving the country after reportedly failing to uphold his part in a contract he entered into with a local show promoter. Brown was reportedly about to take a flight to Hong Kong on Wednesday when local authorities informed his entourage that a hold departure order was issued against him.

Accordint to CNN, Brown was in the Philippines for a concert on July 21. However, the breach of contract for which he is being charged was due to his absence in a New Year's Eve show.
The complainants claim they paid the rap star to perform in a show at a local stadium in the Philippine province of Bulacan, northern Manila. The promoters of the show are demanding that Brown refund the amount they paid him.
The rapper claims that he did not make it on time for the concert due his missing passport, according to Yahoo News.
Also in the hold departure order is John Michael Pio Roda, Brown's promoter. Both men could be allowed to leave the Philippines if the Philippine Justice Department issues them a written waiver.
The rapper is no stranger to controversies or having brushes with the law.
In 2009, Brown was convicted of assaulting another pop star, Rihanna, who was his girlfriend at that time. The assault happened when they are about to attend the annual Grammy Awards night. The courts ordered that Brown serves five years of probation, 6 months of community service and attend a one year course over the domestic abuse. He later issued a public statement apologizing for his behavior.
Brown has faced accusations of assault and even a hit-and-run charge from various persons through the years. Last year, he spent a few months in prison for violating the terms of his probation.
Brown was also prohibited from performing a concert in Canada last February because of his criminal record, according to TMZ.
