Founded by the company, Modern Sky Entertainment, the festival has achieved much success, a large fan base following, and many new musical acts over the past six years. Overtime, it has been met with an explosive growth and has become known as China's biggest and most celebrated modern music festival. Now as Modern Sky Festival approaches its seventh annual performance, it intends to change its traditional all-Chinese lineup and become a multicultural musical event with performers from all around the globe.

The festival will be running for two days and plans to include a diverse set with major Chinese rock music performances paired with several notable American acts. Among these performers include the high profile Chinese rock bands Zhang Xuan, Tongue, Second Hand Rose, Re-TROS (Rebuilding the Rights of Statues), Omnipotent Youth Society, and Queen Sea Big Shark. They will be joined by the acclaimed American musicians Cat Power, The Blood Brothers, Liars, Stars, and The Both (Aimee Mann and Ted Leo).

Aside from Chinese and American performers, Modern Sky Festival will include other international influences during the concert's opening. On the first day, Saturday, October 4th, a performance group (to be announced) will perform "Atomic Bomb! The Music of William Onyeabor" as a tribute to William Onyeabor, the Nigerian funk musician. In addition, Australian alternative pop singer, Lenka, will be making an appearance on Sunday, October 5th.
