On Tuesday, the recorded temperature in China was at 38.5 degrees Celsius, significantly lower than the scorching hot 40 degrees Celsius reading on Monday in the Pudong New Area.

The Shanghai Meteorological Bureau has said that the succeeding days are going to be hot as well, with predicted temperatures reaching as high as 39 degrees Celsius.

Nevertheless, things are going to take a different turn starting next week when the subtropical high pressure moves north. Authorities said citizens can expect the high temperatures to go down to 36 degrees Celsius by next Tuesday.

Amid the heat wave, local hospitals have reported that there has been a huge increase in their number of patients thus July, but it was not clear if most cases were related to the rising temperatures.

As per collected hospital data, Zhongshan, Ruijin, Huashan and Shanhai No. 6 People's hospital saw around 10,000 people seeking for emergency treatment this week.

Xinhua and Renji hospitals even noted the significantly increased number of emergency patients to 16,000.

Meanwhile, Fudan University Children's Hospital said the daily average patient number they had since the summer vacation started reached 7,000.

Last week, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China raised a red alert warning due to the high temperatures, Shanghai Daily reported.

Chief weatherwoman Dou Xinying said Sunday that the heat wave in the area was expected to linger for a couple more days.

The red alert is the highest signal warning in China's four-tiered weather warning system. It is followed by orange, yellow and the lowest signal blue.

At the time, authorities were worried that the high temperatures in the area will increase the risk of forest fires and fires in the grasslands.

They also expected that a sudden flood would occur when the snow atop the mountains melt.
