Hallyu superstar Bae Yong-joon paid it forward as he reportedly footed the bill for the food and drinks of his fans on the day of his wedding to South Korean singer Park Soo-jin. According to Strait Times, the 42-year-old actor shelled out 10 million won (approximately US $8,500) to make sure that his supporters waiting outside the wedding venue were fed well.

On July 27, more than 200 fans camped out at Sheraton Grand Walkerhill Hotel to have a peek at the intimate wedding of their idol. They waited on the roadside amid the light rain and were soon handed with free meal coupons and canned coffee by personnel from Bae's agency KeyEast Entertainment.

Among the supporters who staked out were middle-aged and elderly women hoping for a chance to see Bae on his most awaited day. Also present were fans who flew all the way from Japan weeks prior the event. Almost every one was armed with a memorabilia that features the face of the "Winter Sonata" actor who introduced Hallyu Wave to the world. In Japan, Bae earned the honorary name "Yon-sama" or "Emperor Yon."

"I have been a fan of Yon-sama for 12 years," Yukari Ando, a 39-year-old housewife from Nagoya, proudly shared with Japan Times.

"He is like family so I am happy that he is finally getting married," 67-year-old Tokyo resident Kazuko Yamamoto happily announced.

When Bae's car finally arrived at 1 p.m., the persistent fans let out a loud cheer but allegedly therafter heaved a sigh when all they saw was a hand waving from a barely rolled down window. The wedding was said to have been held at 6 p.m.

Aside from his emotionally charged TV dramas, Bae captivated the hearts of many Japanese when he donated US $900,000 to the relief efforts for victims of the great earthquake and tsunami that destroyed eastern Japan in 2011.

While he has retired from acting in 2007, Bae continues to be active in the entertainment industry as chairman and majoy shareholder of KeyEast. In 2014, he met Park when she joined the agency. The couple started dating in February after Bae's two-year relationship with chaebol heiress Koo So-hee and announced their engagement in May.
