Manchester United And Adidas Celebrate Reunion And Unveil New Home Kit For 2015/16 Season

Sportswear manufacturing giant Adidas has just unveiled the new Manchester United home kit for the 2015/2016 football season. After several decades, Adidas and United have agreed to reunite and commit to a 10-year sponsorship deal.

The announcement was made on the Manchester United website on Saturday August 1. This marks the beginning of a decade-long partnership between two sporting icons. After a long-term deal with sporting goods manufacturer Nike, ended last season, the Red Devils decided to rekindle a partnership that they enjoyed with Adidas that dates back to the 1980s.

The design of the new kit reflects the history that the two have built in the past. Adidas is using the best in modern clothing technology but the aesthetics pay tribute to their glory days with the team.

The jersey has a v-neck and the classic Adidas three-stripe design running down the shoulders to the arms. The area near the hem features a graphic design that pays tribute to an iconic kit that was worn by United legend Ryan Giggs in his debut season back in 1990. The front carries the logo of corporate sponsor Chevrolet. One thing that remains constant of course, is the fiery red color. The team's insignia also remains on the left breast opposite the Adidas logo on the right.

"This landmark sponsorship is not the first time we have partnered with the club and it is with these iconic kits of the past that we drew our inspiration from," said Adidas designer Inigo Turner, who happens to be a lifelong Manchester United fan.

"Everyone at Manchester United is very proud of the shirt's classic design, which draws upon the club's iconic kits of yesteryear," said Manchester United's managing director Richard Arnold.

The two companies are celebrating their reunion by publishing a gallery of photos reflecting their history together. The photos showcase some of the club's legendary players as they played and won various titles for the club, while wearing Adidas kits back in the 1980's.

Another gallery has been released featuring the club's current players. They are shown wearing the new kit while brandishing a red trident inspired by the team's insignia. The brand-new home kits will be featured for the first time on August 8 when the team plays its opening game of the season at Old Trafford against Tottenham Hotspur.
