The Carolina Panthers are deep in the wide receiver spot this offseason but candidates Brenton Bersin and Jarrett Boykin are ready to embrace the challenge of making the final roster in September, according to the Panthers' official website.

The 25-year old Bersin, who was an undrafted player, had been with the team's practice squad since 2012 but had managed to break through the official lineup in 2014 as the team had released all active wideouts from the previous season.

Meanwhile, Boykin, also 25 and undrafted, was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012 as an offseason member only but was cut in May of that year. He was then immediately signed by the Green Bay Packers for a three-year contract worth $1.44 million starting that season, finishing it in 2015, but he was not extended or re-signed.

In March this year, the Panthers offered Boykin a one-year contract with an undisclosed amount, which the former Virginia Tech standout accepted.

As of this off-season's training camp, Bersin and Boykin are numbers three and four respectively in the Panthers left side wide receiver depth chart behind injured starter Kelvin Benjamin and 12-year veteran Jerricho Cotchery, as per CBS Sports. The right WR depth lineup is composed of Devin Funchess, Corey Brown, and Ted Ginn.

"You have your locks like Kelvin, who is the No.1," Bersin told reporters during a break in training camp. "You've got Philly (Brown), Ted, and Funchess, who got drafted in the second round. Cotch (Cotchery) is a vet. We have a lot of people in the room that you could say are locks to make the team. So there are not that many spots left after that. You have to compete with all the other guys they brought in. It will be a good camp and preseason."

The News & Observer reported that even with the recent injury of one of the Panthers' top wideout candidates, Stephen Hill, Carolina's wide receiver lineup remains deep going into training camp.

So far, the team has 11 wideouts in their fold and around half of them will be cut before the Panthers' season-opening faceoff with the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 13.

Looking at the big picture, Bersin and Boykin are still not one hundred percent sure of landing in the final roster but they seem ready to die trying.
