Baltimore Ravens' safety Matt Elam is going to be sidelined for the coming season as he suffered a full biceps tear last Saturday, as reported by NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk.

The two-year pro tore his biceps while trying to defend a wide receiver in day one of full-contact practices. His arm muscles reportedly had been contorted by the blow and was left without its normal effectiveness or range of motion.
The Baltimore Sun indicated that the injury would require surgery for it to be repaired and Elam would need four to six months to completely recover from the setback.
"I feel bad for Matt just because he was doing so well," said Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. "He really had been determined to change, improve some things that he wasn't doing quite as well. The number one thing was tackling. We were both excited to get out there in pads and see him tackle because I thought he was really preparing for it well."
A magnetic resonance imaging procedure revealed that his biceps were fully torn, a serious injury that might affect his whole career and life if not healed properly. He is now set to be relegated to the team's injured-reserve list for the whole season, which reportedly had given Harbaugh a lot of problems regarding the Raven's depth in that position.
The remaining Baltimore safeties are Will Hill and Kendrick Lewis, who are in competition with Elam for the starting spot. Other than the two, only Brynden Trawick, Anthony Levine, and undrafted rookie Nick Perry are left, which would seem inadequate for the long haul.
Aside from Elam, backup safety Terrence Brooks is also in the PUP list as he is still recuperating from a serious knee injury and could still not open the season on September 13 against the Denver Broncos.
Bleacher Report noted that the 23-year-old had been preparing hard this summer to get another shot at the Raven's starting safety spot. He had not played well in his first two seasons although he showed a lot of promise when he was drafted by the team 32nd overall during the 2013 NFL Draft.
Team GM Ozzie Newsome and Harbaugh are still not giving up on Elam as they are keen on helping the former Florida Gator reach his full potential in the professional league. They have to wait one more year, though, to make that happen.
