Three division world champion Adrien Broner (30-2, 22 KOs) is being linked to a fight with two-division world titlist Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9 KOs) of Russia for the vacant WBA (regular) junior welterweight belt this October 3.

Boxing Scene reported that the fight will either be set in Las Vegas or Cincinnati, although the network that would broadcast the fight is still not settled upon. The match is reportedly going to be a co-promotion between Haymon Boxing and Khabib's promoter, Vladimir Hryunov.

The junior welterweight belt was relinquished by Jessie Vargas earlier this year in order to face current WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley Jr. in a fight which he lost via unanimous decision on June 27, according to Bleacher Report.

Vargas' vacated title is reportedly going to be on the line for the Broner- Allakhverdiev bout.

The Russian sensation's most recent fight was a 12-round unanimous decision loss to Vargas way back in April last year as an undercard to the Pacquiao-Bradley rematch at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Allakhverdiev lost his WBA super lightweight and IBO junior welterweight titles to Vargas that night.

Meanwhile, "The Problem" was also coming off a loss, only the second of his career, against welterweight star Shawn "Showtime" Porter on June 20 at the MGM Grand via a 12-round unanimous decision.

SB Nation's Bad Left Hook noted that all of Broner's losses were suffered when he fought at the welterweight limit, which means he is virtually unbeaten at junior welterweight.

If the match pushes through, it would still be a great fight although Broner would be a huge favorite over the light-hitting Allakhverdiev, who is expected to fight off some rust after fighting only two times in the last couple of years.

Broner will be gunning for a fourth division title belt which is an accomplishment when it comes to the sport of boxing. This is also a big break for the Cincinnati native as he will also have a chance to redeem himself from the embarrassing loss to Porter by facing an "easy" opponent for a world championship fight, although the fans are not particularly enamored to such an idea.
