The Pittsburg Steelers' one and only placekicker in their 90-man roster, Shaun Suisham, tore his ACL during the second half of the team's Hall of Fame game versus the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday and will be scheduled for a season-ending surgery, as per ESPN.

Suisham injured his left knee while trying to help in tackling Vikings' cornerback Marcus Sherels after a typical second half kickoff. The 33-year-old veteran is known for his fondness of contact on the field, but many analysts believed that what he did was not needed and pointless first of all because it was only preseason.

The 10-year pro is set to go under the knife anytime this week and was placed in the Steelers' injured reserve list.

Pittsburg is now in the process of finding a suitable replacement for Suisham and have contacted several ones, such as Garret Hartley, Alex Henery, and Jay Feely, for a tryout, according to the NFL's official website.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette, who noted that former Bowling Green standout was the Steelers' most accurate kicker of all time, said that the probable cause of the injury was the old turf of the Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio where the game was held.

Bouchette reported that the turf had been scheduled for replacement, but the game still went on. Suisham reportedly stuck his foot in the turf after attempting a tackle, making his knee turn awkwardly, eventually tearing his ACL.

Other kickers in consideration by head coach Mike Tomlin were veterans Billy Cundiff and Shayne Graham.

What makes Suisham hard to replace, however, was his experience and accuracy at the Heinz Field where he had been thriving since 2010. Pittsburgh had just signed the Ontario native to a four-year, $9.6 million contract extension in August last year and Tomlin was expecting him to bring out his same excellent performance for the Steelers' special teams this coming season.

The 6-foot-0, 200-pound kicker shot 90.6 percent of his field goals in the 2014 season, which was the fifth-highest in the league.

The Steelers did not only lose their lone kicker but went on to lose the match as well, 14-3.
