The Browns coach added that it's a "natural question" for them to get considering that he was the Ravens assistant coach until 2009.

Furthermore, Browns running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery was Rice's position coach from 2008 to 2013.

The discussion to bring in Rice transpired due to the inability of back up running backs, such as Isaiah Crowell, to fill in for injured Terrance West, who has a calf strain, and rookie Duke Johnson who has a hamstring problem.

Rice has not seen action in the NFL after he was cut by the Ravens in September amid public pressure to sanction him due to a video that surfaced in social media showing him knocking out his then-fiancée Janay Palmer.

The incident transpired in February last year in an Atlantic City elevator.

Ray and Janay have since been married.

Before the ordeal, Rice has six NFL seasons under his belt and has became arguably one the league's best running backs and the face of the Ravens.

The 28-year-old Rice is hopeful about playing again in the NFL and is persuading teams that he is a "rehabilitated man".

Rice said after he was cut by the Ravens that he "failed miserably", ccording to SB Nation.

But he pointed out that he wouldn't call himself a failure since he is working himself back up as a
better role model as well as a father and a better husband.

To be able to come back, Rice will have to deal with Dee Haslam, wife of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, who is on the NFL's Conduct Committee.

The said committee was formed after the Rice and Adrian Peterson incidents.
