The broken jaw will sideline Smith for six to ten weeks.
The incident started after Enemkpali brought a $600 plane ticket for Smith so the latter could attend the linebacker's football camp on July 11 at a High School in Pfugerville, Texas. .
However, just before the camp, someone close to Smith died in a motorcycle accident in Miami, keeping Smith from fulfilling his commitment to join the camp.
Enemkpali, a second-year linebacker, then demanded that Smith reimburse him for the cost of the ticket.
Smith agreed to pay.
But when no money came Enkempali's way, the latter confronted Smith and it led to a jaw-breaking punch.
Enemkpali was then immediately cut by the team with new Jets head coach Todd Bowles telling the linebacker that he shouldn't be walking up to another and just started punching in the face.
Bowles called the players "childish" and said that the two could have just talked it out.
Enemkpali has since apologized to the Jets organization, fans, teammates and coaches, and said that he and Smith allowed their frustrations to get the best of them, ESPN reported.
He added that he never intended to hurt anyone and admitted that he should have walked away from the confrontation.
Enemkpali has been claimed on waivers by the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday and passed his physical early Thursday. He expressed gratitude to the Bills for giving him another chance to futher his career.
