The smartphone industry is abuzz with upcoming 6th gen flagships such as Google's Nexus 6 and Apple's iPhone 6.

It's rumored the next Nexus model is currently codenamed "Shamu" to enhance a more unadulterated Android experience with Android L upon its launch.

According to Android Police, the codename Shamu fits with Google's aquatic classification codenames for previous Nexus models.

The upcoming one is said to have a fingerprint sensor similar to iPhone 5S and Galaxy S5. It may possibly be launched in November.

There is no Nexus 6 Motorola release date confirmation yet but reports claim the Shamu project was immediately given to Motorola after Lenovo bought it early in 2014. The alleged Nexus 6 is rumored to have a 5.9-inch display, putting it under the phablet category.

Other recent rumors mention an 8.9-inch Nexus tablet being possibly made by HTC. It's codenamed "Volantis" and runs the NVIDIA Tegra K1 chip. It's interesting that Google is tapping multiple manufacturers to develop new hardware.

Android Police spotted the next-gen tablet called Volantis. It's said to have high-end specs covered in an aluminum body.

It's widely speculated that Volantis is the upcoming Nexus 9. The tablet will supposedly have a 2048 x 1440 pixel resolution which calculates to 281 ppi.

It's packed with a 64-bit processor with 2 GB of RAM. Volantis or Nexus 9 is rumored to be available in variants with 16 GB and 32 GB internal storage; an 8 megapixel rear camera; 3 megapixel front camera and stereo speakers.

Google, hopefully, will keep to its promise of improving battery life, an important feature to attract more consumers.

It's also possible that the battery saving feature of the latest Android L will allow the new device to manage its power more efficiently.

With a 2,800 mAh battery along with Android L, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Shamu or Volantis whatever the next-gen Nexus models really are, will make it high up among Android smartphones.
