Recent records indicate 526 reported deaths in the counties of Ludian County, 78 in Qiaojia County, one in the district of Zhaoyang and 12 more from Huize County.

One hundred twelve people are still missing and the recorded number injured had increased to a staggering 3,143 as of Friday.

Meanwhile, local news reported that some rescuers and several residents at the earthquake epicenter in the town of Longtoushan in Ludian County had suffered from heatstroke after the devastating quake hit the area.

However, no connection between the heat and the Sunday earthquake had been revealed yet.

The massive earthquake shook the southwestern part of China on Sunday at around 4:30 PM (Beijing Time) and had affected more than one million people.

Reports indicate that the earthquake had been dubbed with an intensity of level nine on a 12-level modified mercalli intensity (MMI) scale which can cause significant damage to structures.

In related news, a 49 square-kilometer barrier lake formed after the earthquake is currently being monitored as it rises and threatens to further devastate the province of Yunnan.

The 15-kilometer long lake had already flooded almost 400 houses and may further affect the rest of the area.

Authorities have already relocated 4,200 residents from low-laying areas to avoid human casualties in case of a flashflood.
