Legendary boxing promoter Don King recently grabbed headlines as he reportedly filed a lawsuit intending to put a stop to the upcoming junior middleweight rematch between Shane Mosley (47-9-1, 39 KOs) and Ricardo Mayorga (31-8-1, 25 KOs) scheduled on August 29 at the Forum in Inglewood, California.

The court case was submitted to the Miami District Court and had charged Mayorga of violating his alleged current promotional contract with King, as reported by Boxing Scene. The 83-year-old promoter had Mayorga, Mosley, GoBox Promotions, and Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions as the offenders.

King, best known for promoting equally legendary boxers Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, and George Foreman, had pressed a similar charge on Mayorga in the past, which was his attempted 2010 mixed martial arts bout in North Carolina. That fight and the whole card that it belonged to was cancelled that time as the courts decided in favor of the American promoter.

King declared that the 41-year-old Mayorga is still under contract with him after showing a legal document signed by the latter in 2014. Mayorga went into retirement after getting knocked out by Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto in 2009, but decided to come back five years later and allegedly signed up with King.

Meanwhile, Mosley's legal team was questioning the legitimacy of the documents presented by King, claiming that Mayorga's signature was forged. Moreover, the authenticity of the Notary Public who witnessed the signatures was also questionable as it was found out that her license was already expired during the time the contract was sealed and the notary seal number also reportedly belonged to someone else.

Fight News indicated that Mosley was insistent that his fight with Mayorga later this month will push through despite King's efforts to cancel it.

"Mosley vs Mayorga 2 is going to happen," the 43-year-old boxer said, who himself came out of retirement to face Mayorga. "There is no way we are going to let Don King destroy everything we have worked for just to line his pockets with a frivolous lawsuit."

Bleacher Report noted that cancelling a fight only a few weeks away would cause "serious problems" especially to those who had already bought live gate tickets and pay-per-view broadcasts.

Still, Mosley reiterated to the fans that the fight will go on despite all the legal mumbo-jumbo thrown their way by King.
