Rumors have emerged that a potential bout between top welterweights Keith "One Time" Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs) and Shawn "Showtime" Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs) are on the negotiating table and is set on October 3rd under Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions fight card.

Boxing News 24's Dan Ambrose said that this could be the "first real test" for the man who calls himself One Time as Porter is a former IBF welterweight champion and arguably the most skilled and most experienced among all of his previous opponents.

Ambrose also indicated that Thurman got his WBA welterweight belt without fighting "someone good" for it.

The 26-year-old Clearwater, Florida native knocked out Argentina's Diego Chaves in the 10th round of their July 2013 bout to claim the interim WBA welterweight title, then won the WBA (Regular) welterweight crown against Robert Guerrero in March this year via a 12-round unanimous decision victory.

His last match was against old-timer and former WBA welterweight titlist Luis Collazo, whom he defeated via a seventh round stoppage. Collazo was said to be winning in the scorecards as Thurman backpedaled the whole fight, but the referee halted the match at the beginning of the eighth round as Collazo could not see clearly due to a bleeding cut above his eye caused by an accidental head butt.

Meanwhile, Porter is coming off a huge unanimous decision victory over Adrien "The Problem" Broner in their June bout at the MGM Grand. Showtime dominated Broner during the entire match with his aggressiveness and pinpoint accuracy, with the latter mimicking Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s evasive techniques to no avail.

The 27-year-old Porter was knocked down in the opening minutes of the last round with a wayward right, but that's about the only shining moment for The Problem.

SB Nation's Bad Left Hook indicated that Thurman-Porter would be a "good fight" as both are two of the best up and coming boxers in the division these days. The Transnational Boxing Rankings Board lists them as numbers 5 and 6 respectively in their official rankings.

The potential bout is said to be the main event of the October 3rd PBC fight card in a still undisclosed venue that also included a clash between Broner and former WBA light welterweight champ Khabib Allakhverdiev as an undercard, as per Opening Round.
