According to an exclusive from Variety, ABC is close to ordering a pilot for the project that currently does not have a premiere date yet. Executive producers and pilot episode writers for the series are "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." producers Jeffrey Bell and Paul Zbyszewski with Marvel's head of television Jeph Loeb joining them as an executive producer as well.
There was an earlier attempt at a spinoff series from "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." involving the same actors, Palicki and Blood, which did not materialize after it seemed like the project was well on its way to being picked up by the network.
Despite the failed initial attempt, ABC president Paul Lee said during the recent New York Upfronts that the series could be revived, saying that, "It certainly is a possibility of spinning them off."
The site's sources, however, say that "Marvel's Most Wanted" won't be a spinoff but instead is considered a new project, one that will follow the adventures of Mockingbird and Agent Blood.
Palicki became a series regular in the second half of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." after her stellar performance as Agent Bobbi Morse at the beginning of Season 2. As a former Avenger and ex-wife of Hawkeye in Marvel Comics' West Coast Avengers (1985), there are plenty of stories involving Mockingbird for the writers to play around with for the new ABC series.
By adding "Marvel's Most Wanted" into its weekly Marvel series offering of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D" and "Agent Carter," ABC is investing heavily in the superhero genre. There are also talks of another confidential Marvel project currently in the hands of creator John Ridley (American Crime).
"Marvel's Most Wanted" is ABC's latest foray into the world of superheroes and is expected to challenge other superhero TV series being shown on television including the CW's "The Flash," "Arrow," and "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" as well as Fox's "Gotham," and CBS's "Supergirl."
