“Person of Interest” may be cancelled after season 5, but fans and cast members are still optimistic about the series’ renewal. Showrunner Greg Plagemen teased that the coming “POI” premiere is something that fans should not dare miss.
Speaking to TV Guide, Plageman confirmed that Sarah Shahi (Dr. Sameen Shaw) will be returning to the CBS series. The actress has been on maternity leave since the end of 2014, but after giving birth to her twins last March, Shahi is more than ready to reprise her role.

"You will see her very early in the season, and once you see her, she will always be on the show for the remainder of the show," Plageman shared.
On the other hand, Shahi admitted that she does not know the specifics of how Shaw will be reintroduced in season 5. Realty Today reported that the actress will be back for eight or nine episodes. She said that she is truly excited to go back to the show full-time.
The publication further noted that "Enlisted" star Keith David has been signed to do few episodes on "Person of Interest" as Terrence Beale. He will reportedly play a smart and cunning CIA agent who has a dark secret. The actor described his character as a man who knows where the bodies are buried because he was the one who put a few of them there themselves.
Meanwhile, according to TV.com, the CBS executives have yet to decide on the fate of the series. It has long been rumored that "Person of Interest" will be cancelled after season 5 but CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler asserted that nothing is confirmed as of the moment. She added that they have also yet to reach an agreement on the number of episodes in the coming season.
"That show's in production now and will be coming on later this season, but we haven't determined if it's the end of the series yet," she said.
