The renewal of “Married at First Sight” season 3 may still be up in the air, but producers and fans remain optimistic about the show’s fate. As FYI introduces “Seven Year Switch," some cannot help but wonder if the new series would serve as a replacement of the original social experiment reality show.

According to Master Herald, "Married at First Sight" enjoyed a high rating after for both season 1 and season 2. Although none of the couples ended up together in the second season, viewers could not help but feel intrigued on what happened next after the season finale.
The publication pointed out that the show's counterpart in Australia has been renewed in spite of its low ratings. In its season 1 finale, it was revealed that only one out of the three couples stayed together after the show.
Meanwhile, according to Realty Today, the casting call announcement for "Marriage at First Sight" season 3 has been taken down from their website. The publication claimed that this could be taken as an indication that the FYI series has been cancelled.
Many claim that the cancellation was because of the poor selection process of the cast. Although the probability of choosing one's life partner based on science is an intriguing process, some critics wondered of the show's resident experts had an accurate basis for their matching process.
Following Jessica Castro's decision to file a restraining order against her husband Ryan De Nino after the latter threatened to hurt her and her family, many viewers started to become dubious of the show's screening process.
Speaking to People, executive producer Chris Coelen explained that they have a dedicated and advanced casting team who screen the possible candidates. He explained they were very careful in selecting applicants.
"The men and the women are treated exactly the same. We go to bars, mixers, singles events and church groups," Coelen said.
"We also go on every dating site you could possibly think of--OkCupid, Match.com, Tinder, Hinge. We also go on Facebook, talk to family and friends and try to make the pool as big as possible."
The showrunner revealed that they received more than 20,000 applicants for "Married at First Sight" season 3, a huge jump from last season's 7,000 applicants.
