McRae's character is described as a handsome, easygoing guy who is dating Becky. McRae reunites with executive producer Lee Daniels and Danny Strong after working with them in the 2013 movie "The Butler." McRae is also in series "Murder in the First" and was part of Reese Witherspoon's movie "Wild."

Sidibe is expected to play a bigger role in the second season as assistant to Lucious Lyon played by Terrence Howard.

But Sidibe's blossoming love life is not the only thing happening in season 2. An impressive guest line-up is also at bay led by Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz, Chris Rock, Ludacris, Pitbull, Kelly Rowland, and Marisa Tomei.

There's also a possibility that the highly-successful show will have a spin-off as revealed by Daniels at the Television Critics' Association's summer press tour. He added that this new series will be about the young Cookie Lyon. Daniels said that the approach would be more of a prequel.

"Empire" is Fox's new record-breaking series. The show's finale garnered a total of 16.7 million viewers with a 6.5 rating. It is the network's only primetime scripted series that has a growing viewership for each of its first five episodes.

This comes as no surprise as lead stars Howard and Taraji P. Henson continue to impress and get the fans hooked with their amazing performance.

"Empire" season 2 returns on Fox on Sept. 23, 2015.
