"Fear the Walking Dead" made history with 10.1 million viewers on its premiere, making it the biggest in cable TV. From that viewership, 6.3 million were adults ages 18-49. The prequel to "Walking Dead" is about a family in Los Angeles during the early stages of the zombie apocalypse.

The 90-minute premiere surpassed the 7.7 million record previously set by "Raising the Bar" back in 2008. It also broke the 4.4 million record set by "Better Call Saul" in the 18-49 demographic earlier this year.

Cable network AMC now holds three of the five top cable premieres of all time with "Walking Dead" at the fifth place, which debuted with 5.3 million viewers back in 2010. It continues to grow in viewership as evidenced by its 17.3 million viewers for its fifth season series premiere.

The first season of "Fear the Walking Dead" will have six episodes. The show is already booked for season 2. Sunday nights is now a tough spot to be in for other TV programs with the successful zombie prequel clearly capturing the majority of viewers including that key demographic.

The mini-series is created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson. It stars Kim Dickens as Madison Clark, Alycia Debnam Carey as Alicia Clark, Cliff Curtis as Travis Manawa, Frank Dillane as Nick Clark, Elizabeth Rodriguez as Liza Ortiz, Mercedes Masohn as Ofelia Salazar, Ruben Blades as Daniel Salazar, Lorenzo James Henrie as Chris Manawa, and Patricia Reyes Spindola as Griselda Salazar.

Season 2 of "Fear the Walking Dead" is set for 2016 while "Walking Dead" returns on Oct. 11 on AMC.
