AMC is planning a 30-minute standalone special that will feature a walker attack on a plane while in flight. It will be set during the same timeline as "Fear the Walking Dead."

Entertainment Weekly exclusively reports that one character from the said flight will survive and will join the cast of the companion series in Season 2. Producers have recently announced that "Fear the Walking Dead" will have 15 episodes in its next season.

The airline attack story will be released online but chapters of the special will be featured in between the telecasts of "The Walking Dead." The web series is not a crossover, but will somehow bridge the gap between the two shows.

What will happen is while you're watching TWD there will be a commercial break then it will show a chapter of the airline attack special then back to regular programming. There's no word yet as to how many chapters will be shown or how many episodes of TWD will have it.

The zombies on a plane concept is not new, though. The movie "World War Z" has an action sequence involving zombies. Back in 2007, another movie called "Flight of the Living Dead" also involved a zombie outbreak in mid-air. It's now up to the producers and writers of TWD to create a version that will raise the bar in plane walker attacks.

"Fear the Walking Dead" showrunner Dave Erickson previously told The Hollywood Reporter that he had an idea for a web series for the spinoff show, but that didn't pan out. It remains unclear if this was the same one he originally planned.

Season 6 of "The Walking Dead" returns on Oct. 11 on AMC.
