He showed his electrifying dance moves and impressive vocals singing his new single "What Do You Mean?" Bieber also had an aerial stunt before descending and delivering an inspirational speech.
"Life is a journey. Sometimes a battle. Always the unexpected. Sometimes you focus on the destination and forget to focus on that journey. When you fall it allows you to get up stronger. It allows you not to lean on your own understanding, give in to fate... Believe in something bigger than yourself and find your purpose," the young pop star said.
It also took a while for host Miley Cyrus to say anything except, "Wow." She later on made light of the emotional moment by telling Bieber to "call her."
This is Bieber's first performance at the VMAs since 2010. He proved to his critics that he still got what it takes to be in the industry despite all the negative publicity he's had the past couple of years. His triumphant comeback showed everyone that the five-year wait was well worth it.
