The song also broke Spotify's records with 21 million streams in five days, surpassing One Direction's "Drag Me Down" with 20 million in one week. Bieber first performed the song at the MTV Video Music Awards and cried after the number.
The strip-down version of "What Do You Mean?" is beautiful and relaxing to listen to. Fans will better appreciate the lyrics and tune of the song with its mere guitar accompaniment.
Bieber said in an interview with Ryan Seacrest that in this album he wanted to create pure music so that he'll be able to create strip-down versions of the songs and it will still be huge hits.
"I want this album to translate to just so many people, and that's why I want to make it inspiring. I have a song on the album called 'All In It': 'Don't do nothing unless your heart's in it.' And that's why with the production that I'm using and the authenticity of my vocals - like you hear how raw 'Where Are Ü Now' is."
"It's just vocal and the vocals are so pure because it's just done with me and a piano and the production was done around that. So when you do it like that, it's so much more pure because you're not relying on the production. The production obviously adds something awesome, but if we just took the piano and my vocals, that would be an awesome ballad. So I want to continue to make songs that you strip everything out ... just making sure each song you can strip it down, put instrumentals, and it's still a bonafide hit," explained the 21-year old singer.

When asked about the influence he wants to impart on his fans on this new album he said, "The album is really inspirational. Most of the songs are just uplifting and fun, and I wanted to use my platform in this point in my life to just reach as many people as I can in a positive way."
After a successful 30-day social media build-up for the release of "What Do You Mean?," the momentum and demand for Bieber's new song continues to increase and break records.
"Beliebers" are truly seeing the big comeback of Bieber.
