Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett reportedly "does not care" who will start at running back for the team's season-opening game against the New York Giants on Sunday.

"It doesn't matter," the 49-year-old coach said, as reported by ESPN. "The only thing that matters is everybody getting ready to play and when their number is called upon, be ready to go out there and be their best."

Garrett has a surplus of reliable players in his backfield that includes Joseph Randle and Darren McFadden, both of whom are considered as starter-quality rushers. The two had been in competition for the starting spot all summer long and it is still unclear up to this day who will ultimately get the job.

Dallas also has quality backups Lance Dunbar and Christine Michael, both more than capable of being a second-string running back for any team.

What is anticipated, though, is that Garrett will utilize a committee approach in their offensive backfield with Randle, McFadden, and Dunbar each taking reps every game, and the coach is "upbeat" about it, as per USA Today.

"Sometimes you have one guy who's a featured back and sometimes you have more than one guy doing it," the coach said. "When you have a couple or three different guys involved running the football over the course of a game, I think the benefits are many."

One of those benefits, Garrett said, was the "freshness" that the position would bring even during the crucial final quarter of games where most players are already exhausted. Another is the different styles and approaches of attack by the three men, which he said would confuse defenses.

"They can attack defenses in different ways and maybe over the course of three of them, they're just more versatile than one guy might be," he added.

Meanwhile, the 24-year-old former Seattle Seahawk Michael is said to be another talented addition to the Cowboys running back lineup, according to the league's official website.

However, Michael is not expected to affect the official rotation of Randle, McFadden, and Dunbar for the meantime, although things can change quickly as the season progresses and as Garrett gets to know the third year pro's game better.
