26-year-old Mamet talked about her disorder and she revealed that she has suffered from it back when she was still a child.
She narrates that she was told she was fat back when she was eight years old.
She notes that this was the first time she was told by someone that she was fat.
She adds that she is not fat and has never been fat but ever since someone told her that, she feels that there has been a monster in her brain telling her that she is indeed fat.
That voices inside Mamet convince her that her clothes don't fit and that she is eating too much.
She adds about the suffering she has encountered back when she was a teenager.
She said that she used to stand in front of the refrigerator deliberating whether to eat something or just go back to bed.
She adds that she would just stand there for many hours. She would take out a piece of food then put it back.
She takes it out again then eats it but eventually spitting it out. She was 17 back then and she noted she was living in misery and she wanted to die.
Mamet is the daughter of the famous playwright David Mamet. She reveals that her father got her into treatment.
She adds that her father came home one evening and told her that she was not allowed to die.
That was the first time that she realized it was not all about her because her family cared a lot. She noted that the thing about these kinds of disorders is that it makes one egocentric.
Toward the end, Mamet wrote that she is now at a healthy weight but her obsession will always be with her in some way.
She also wrote beautiful reminders such as "Let's remind one another that we're beautiful."
