Emily Blunt Talks Captain Marvel Rumors and Why She’s One of a Select Few

(Photo : Yves Herman/Reuters) Emily Blunt arrives for a screening of the film "Sicario" at the 68th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, southern France, May 19, 2015.
Emily Blunt is currently one of Hollywood's most sought-after actresses. She's also one of fans' choices to play Marvel Comics superheroine Captain Marvel. But so far, all we know is that's what the fans want to happen with no official news coming from Marvel Studios.
According to more recent rumors, Rebecca Ferguson is Marvel's top choice for the role though no offers have been made and perhaps no meetings have taken place as well. That means the "Edge of Tomorrow" star still has a chance to take on the role if both Blunt and Marvel want it.

However, in an interview with MTV while promoting her movie, "Sicario," at the Toronto International Film Festival, Blunt reveals what we've been dreading to hear-Marvel hasn't spoken to her.
"It's crazy. I've not had a phone call about it. Not one whisper of Captain Marvel has come my way. Promise. Promise promise. I don't even know who Captain Marvel is!"
Blunt has spoken and her response says a lot about how Marvel is either taking the casting decision for Captain Marvel slowly or that the studio is looking in another direction for the role.
In another interview at the same event, Blunt also spoke with Indiewire where she discussed her thoughts on why she is one of the few women being considered by fans for roles involving strong and powerful women.
"I think it's because the list is very short, because we don't see women in these kind of roles. So I think as soon as you do a role like that, like Charlize did or I did, or Rebecca's done -- there's like four of us or something. And Jen Lawrence. So I feel like us four, we get talked about -- and Angie, Angelina. So it's a list of like, four women who are going to be considered for those kind of roles. So I think that's why the rumors happen, because they're like, "who else? Surely not another girl can wield a gun," you know what I mean? "A woman doing push-ups? There's only one who can do that."
Other actresses that fans have been clamoring for to take the role of Captain Marvel are Yvonne Strahovski, Natalie Dormer, Katee Sackhoff, and Charlize Theron.
Until they cast an actress for Captain Marvel, the rumors will continue to follow Emily Blunt and other fan-favorites.
