Tuesday - Mark Zukerberg, CEO and co-founder of Facebook, announced, in a question and answer, that the team behind Facebook has been working on it and is nearing the test of its functionality when asked about the dislike button.

Requests for the dislike button in Facebook have been made for a few years ago, and there has always been a demand for this button to appear in posts. A lot of time has been spent over the years for discussions on whether or not Facebook should get a dislike button.

The CEO further reiterated that Facebok did not get the dislike button for a while because they did not want to turn it into a forum, where people can like or dislike posts. He further added that they were avoiding instances where someone shares an important life event and another person "downvotes it".

During the announcement, he said that Facebook finally decided to give this button a "thumbs up" to allow people to express empathy. He also added that not everything posted in Facebook is about good things and some sad news is also posted in this social media site that the like button is not appropriate to use.

The question and answer event was held in Menlo Park, California. Questions during the event came in via Facebook posts. The event was also available through live stream, CNBC reports.

According to the Telegraph, during the event, Zuckerberg hinted that this new button may not be a dislike button. With the increasing support for the hug button, Zuckerberg confirmed that is has been one of the options they have discussed.

Others suggests that a hug button is more appropriate to show empathy to a friend, while others have continued to suggest other buttons they think are more important than the dislike button.

Zuckerberg then noted that the tests will be coming soon and hopefully by then they have button that the Facebook community needs.
