Samsung Gear VR is priced at $99, half the price of its predecessor. It will be available in November in time for Black Friday.

The Gear VR is powered by a mobile device and is supported by Samsung's 2015 smartphone line, including the Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Edge Plus, Galaxy  S6, and Galaxy S6 Edge.

The Samsung gear VR is lighter by 22 percent compared to the "Innovation Edition," which was launched by Samsung in December 2014, making it more comfortable and wearable.

This gear still has the trackpad on the temple; however, Samsung made modifications on it. On VR's predecessor, the trackpad was smooth, making it difficult to know if you are already touching it or if it is not sensitive enough. In comparison, the Gear VR now has a tactile direction pad, making it easier to manipulate without looking at it.

The Samsung Gear VR is also equipped with a new Gear VR Gamepad, which features a dual-stick design comparable to that of the Xbox. Everyone who attended the Oculus Connect Conference is getting if for free, TechCrunch reported.

Samsung has partnered with known publishers such as Sega, Warner Bros. and Namco to bring Oculus Arcade, Mashable reports. On top of this, the Gear VR will also feature original games such as Land's End and Monument Valley developed by ustwo  and Gunjack by CCP Games

Brendan Iribe also announced that Samsung has worked with 20th Century Fox and Lionsgate to make traditional movies viewable on the Gear VR. What's more is that it will also include streaming services like Netflix.

Twitch live streaming is also coming to the Gear VR through Oculus Video. Iribe further added that viewers will be able to watch a wide variety of videos through Oculus Video, ranging from under the sea experiences to hardcore sports action.

The Gear VR is expected to hit the masses. Since it is mobile-based, it can be easily carried around and shared even to those who are not so acquainted with virtual reality. In contrary, the Samsung Oculus Rift Headset is expected to reach a target audience specifically because it needs to be powered by an advanced gaming computer.
