In the summer of 2014, the Canadian hitmaker Avril Lavigne started noticing symptoms of fatigue and shortness of breath but totally no idea of what was plaguing her.
Since the symptoms come out, she started visiting specialists but no one could help her out. The 30-year old singer said on ABC News "I was up with a lot of doctors that told me I was crazy and my problems didn't exist." It turns out that the Girlfriend singer was suffering from Lyme disease, which celebrities like Debbie Gibson, 80s pop icon, and Yolanda Foster, star of the American reality-television show Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, have.

Avril said in an interview that she had a hard time getting diagnosed for Lyme disease. She first shared the news with People Magazine in early April that she had been out from the limelight for some time and was trying to recover from the disease. In fact, she was bedridden for 5 months. Lyme disease is a debilitating bacterial infection that comes from a tick bite.
According to Avril that she went from doctor to doctor for 8 months, which was frustrating and unacceptable. But she finally found someone who has the knowledge and expertise of treating her condition. She confessed that the symptoms had been with her since summer of 2014. Avril wants to help others who are in the same situation, while she also getting herself treated. She launched a campaign to raise awareness and to raise money to help those with Lyme disease.
The singer is positive that she will be OK in the long run and she will come out healthier and stronger than she was before. The disease gives her perspective. She's been taking antibiotics and giving enough rest to combat the disease. She is already halfway through her treatment and feels a lot better.
On the other hand, Avril is now separated with her husband Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger. Though she said that Chad was taking care of her during the time when she was bedridden.
Meanwhile, her ex-husband also has medical issues to resolve. Kroeger is reportedly to undergo surgery for a cyst on his larynx. The ex-couple announced that despite their breakup they are still, and forever will be, the best of friends.
