Eugenie Bouchard, was forced to retire in the middle of her match against Andrea Petkovic after feeling dizzy at the opening match of the China Open held Monday in Beijing, China. This was her first come back to competing after her injury last September at the U.S. Open.
At the U.S. Open, Bouchard lost her footing and fell on her back in the locker room following her victory over Dominika Cibulkova. Consequently, she suffered a concussion that impede her from joining later tennis competitions including games held in Tokyo and Wuhan, China. She opted to get back into playing at the China Open, thinking that she has already recovered from such injury.

According to Yahoo News, the Canadian hitter decided to concede mid second set and went back to her seat because the symptoms of her concussion returned. She hoped to recuperate from her injury very soon and expressed her desire to join again next year.
Petkovic approached the teary-eyed Bouchard to check on her condition. The German opponent said Bouchard replied that she felt very dizzy and the symptoms of her concussion is returning everytime she performs enormous physical activity.
Meanwhile, The Straitstimes reported that Petkovic gave an apology to the Chinese fans after getting loads of social media bashing when she was accused of uttering "racist comments" against the spectators at the Wuhan Open held last week. She further said that she did not intend to offend anybody especially the fans.
"I didn't mean it in general. I meant on tennis courts," Petkovic explained. "I think that's not a thing that is surprising because I wouldn't know how to behave in, let's say, a badminton match or a table tennis match because we don't have it in Germany that much."
Aside from Bouchard, other top contenders have withdrawn from the China Open beforehand, Sunday, due to various reasons. These include defending champion Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams and Simona Halep, who also suffered from different injuries.
