Twitter has just announced a new feature named Moments that highlights the top trending stories being tweeted on Tuesday, Oct.6.

The short-messaging service Twitter only allows posts 140 characters but has found a way to make the site easier to navigate and broaden its appeal across media junkies, celebrities, athletes and politicians. It has more than 300 million users now, but it is slowing with its growth compared with Facebook's 1.5 billion and Instagram's 400 million. It has been criticized for being confusing to use and difficult for users to find popular content. It has introduced a buy now button to make purchases directly through Twitter.

It has recently rolled out its much-anticipated Project Lightning. This feature will show users the best tweets and content as curated by a team from Twitter. It is introduced a day after Chief Executive Officer Jack Dorsey's stability announcement.

Dorsey tweeted on Monday that they are working on making Twitter easy to understand by anyone in the world and allow more convenience to the users who love to use it daily. This statement cheered the investors and analysts -- making a rising shares as much as 6 percent on Monday, The Business Today reports.

The Denver Posts also said that top stories being discussed, even if not following the tweeters, have been showcased in this feature. Tapping a lightning bolt icon tab on the site or application can be found when users open the app on their mobile phones.

It is said that it will update a list of Moments -- noting that an unknown number of employees curate the day's best tweets. Even if users do not follow certain accounts, they can find them.

A mix of news and fluffy trending topics are seen in the Moments. Tweets on South Carolina floods breaking dams and Marutaro the pygmy hedgehog are two examples of Moments as reported and seen yesterday. Interactions between celebrities or the most shared news stories and photos can be present, too.

Moments are also organized according to categories like entertainment or sports.
