At this moment, it is still unclear whether that is indeed the main reason why the carmaker Porsche made the decision to switch to Apple's CarPlay.

According to The Guardian, as an overview of 2017's iteration of Porsche 911, Motor Trend's Jonny Lieberman stated that as part of their agreement as automaker, the company would have to enter with Google including their new Android Auto.

One feature of Android Auto is collecting certain data and mailing back to Mountain View-based Company. According to Budapest Report, the data collected bolster user's navigation and suggestion provided through the car's GPS. Basically, Google requires a complete OBD2 (On-Board Diagnostics) that dumps when the user activates Android Auto.  The systems collect Information such as the throttle position, vehicle speed, oil temperature, engines revs and coolant.

However, Google has denied the report, specifically the claims that Android Auto collects car throttle position, oil temperature and coolant temperature.

According to the company, they take privacy very seriously and do not collect the data that Motor Trend article claims. It is the user's option to share information with Android Auto which improves their experience; hence, the system can be hands-free when in drive and provide more accurate navigation through the car's GPS.

That is similar to the method used by Android phones, letting users choose the data sharing they are comfortable with when they set up their car.
