Miss World Canada Anastasia Lin has accused China of trying to prevent her entry to the Miss World competition finals, which is scheduled to be held in the country on November 21. Chinese-Canadian Lin believes that her outspoken views on human rights in China is the primary reason why the authorities are yet to issue an invitation letter to her for the competition set to be staged in Sanya, Hainan Island.

The Epoch Times reported that Lin has already presented her case to the Miss World committee which has its headquarters in London, Britain. However, a spokesperson for the Miss World pageant seemed pathetically powerless about Lin's situation.
Miss World pageant representatives merely said that they can not compel China to issue a visa to Lin and that with or without her, the finals will push through.
Lin is not satisfied with the organization's official response. She insists that Miss World headquarters should have taken a more resolute stand on the matter.
Lin was born in China and is a practictioner of Falun Gong - which has been banned by Chinese authorities. The Canadian beauty queen is also an actress, appearing in several movies that deal with issues of human rights in her native country. One of her film depicted how Falun Gong practitioners suffered in the hands of Chinese authorities.
The Canadian representative to the Miss World Pageant needs a letter of invitation from the Chinese organizers in order to get a visa to the country. If she can not secure a visa before the competition, she will be disqualified.
Lin has alleged that Chinese security officials harassed her father in China after she won the Miss World Canada competition in May.
A spokesperson for the Canadian Foreign Ministry Amy Mills praised Lin for her commitment in discussing the conditions of human rights, especially those Falun Gong members who have been imprisoned for their beliefs. At the same time, she expressed her government's concern regarding the safety of Lin's relatives in China.
Lin is having doubts if Chinese authorities will issue her a visa and believes she is being discriminated due to her stance on alleged human right abuses in China. She is suggesting the Miss World Beauty Pageant be moved elsewhere if China still refuses to let her join the competition finals.
