Humans still cannot fathom the reason for our own existence. It is one of the most challenging questions to answer.
But a physicist from Harvard University Lisa Randall has proposed a profound theory of how dinosaurs' extinction led to human life forms in her latest book Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs.

Randall associated her theory with dark matters, which astrophysicists believe to make up 85 per cent of the universe. Even if these particles are invisible to the naked eye, experts are confident of their existence and the gravitational force it has to affect all things in the universe.
Business Insider reports that: "In her book, Randall describes a dark, pancake-shaped patty of densely packed dark matter within our galaxy that could be responsible for our emergence as a species."
However, Randall gave a bit of a twist from existing paleontologists' theory that states that the disappearance of dinosaurs resulted from a 9-mile long asteroid that struck the earth's surface some 66 million years ago. The incident impacted 75 per cent of all life forms on the planet and only a few primates survives, which then eventually evolved to present-day humans.
She postulated instead that there is another form of dark matter that comes in a different shape and size called the "dark disc." This, according to her theory, has a gravitational pull just like the dark matters and can be located somewhere near the solar system.
Because our solar system is a part of a much larger Milky Way, she theorizes that our galaxy comes closer to this dark disc every 25 to 35 million years that results to a gravitational pull, which she calls the Oort Cloud, throwing large-sized asteroids toward our planet, the reason why dinosaurs were wiped out in the first place. The Oort cloud is an icy object that lies between 90 million and 9 trillion miles from the sun
However, experts have found a loophole in her theory - `given the fact that the existence of dark matter has not been proven true yet. Research are are trying to support Randall's theory by concentrating on visible behaviors that can give clues about how theoretical dark discs can affect celestial movement.
