In a match that lasted about 50 minutes, Lee was surprisingly dominant all throughout the game as he cruised to the victory against Long, who had been the world's top badminton player since December last year, Fox Sports Asia reports.

"His attacking and defensive game was solid. Everything worked so well for him. I am so happy for him," said Malaysian team head coach Tey Seu Bock. "Chong Wei is certainly back at his best after going through uncertain times over the last few months. This will put him in the right frame of mind ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio next year."

Lee told reporters after the match that he was "really happy" to win his first China Open crown especially accomplishing it "on the home court of Lin Dan and Chen Long", who are his well-known arch-rivals in the sport, according to Xinhuanet.

"I've won all the other titles of the superseries, except the China Open. It was very hard to win. Today I just played fast, just kept going. I'm happy that so many fans here were cheering for me," he added.

The China Open is said to be "one of five Premier events in the 12 legs of the BWF World Superseries" and has been held annually since 1986. It became a part of the Superseries in 2007.

With the win, Lee was also able to get back at Long after losing the Men's singles title in the 2015 BWF World Championships last August, 21-14, 21-17.
