It appears that tech giant Google is refusing to give up on its social networking platform. The search engine giant announced on Tuesday that it is launching a redesigned version of Google+ that focuses more on user interests rather than personal profiles.

Google made the announcement on it official blog posting, "Today, we're starting to introduce a fully redesigned Google+ that puts Communities and Collections front and center. Now focused around interests, the new Google+ is much simpler."

The tech giant added that the new version of Google+ will be more mobile-friendly. The service was completely redesigned in order to perfectly fit any type of device, whether its a desktop computer, a tablet or a smartphone.

A couple of months ago, Google decided to strip some of the features of Google+ and release it as standalone products. They are Google Photos and Google Hangouts. Google said that the move is part of the company's effort to create a "more focused" experience for its users. On the other hand, many tech analysts described the move as the first step for the eventual shutdown of Google+.

According to The Guardian, whether the new Google+ will be successful hinges on its two key aspect; Communities and Collections. With Communities, Google+ will allow users with the same interest to group themselves together. With Collections, Google+ will allow individual users to group their posts together guided by one specific topic.

Many analysts said that with the new design and concept Google+ is heading towards the direction of Reddit and Pinterest rather than Facebook, which focuses more on personal information.

The new shift in focus will make Google+ appealing to a certain group of user, which in turn can attract a specific set of advertisers. Market analysts said that it is relatively easy to sell advertisements to a specific set of users that are grouped based on their interests. Despite this, Google is yet to allow advertisers to join the Google+ community.
