Adele's long awaited album '25' looks set to break the record for first week sales says Billboard, the benchmakers of the US music industry.

The record was previously held by the now de-funct boyband N'Sync, whose 'No Strings Attached' record opened with 2 million sales.

'No Strings Attached' sold exactly 2.4 million copies during its first week in 2000, which happens to be the year before iTunes was launched. iTunes' entry into the market caused a big change in the music industry.

Adele and her management decided to forego releasing the album via live streaming, a move that was sure to raise the number of sales for her long awaited album. Adele also rejected the idea of having '25' available on Spotify and Apple Music.

Adele recently admitted that she decided to take a break from the industry to tend to her young son as well as her post fame struggles. In an interview with 60 minutes, the singer admitted that she went through a phase where she questioned herself even after the blockbuster success of her debut album. "There was quite a long period wherein I did not believe in myself, I was waiting for someone to send me back to Tottenham or something," she said. Tottenham is the singers hometown where she lived before moving to South London with her mother.

The 27-year-old singer also said that her new album '25' took five years to make because she did not want to disappoint the public. "I get really nervous, I'm scared because I don't want to disappoint them." the singer said.

'25', which was released on Nov. 20, has already reached the number one spot on iTunes in 106 countries and sold 900,000 copies in the US iTunes store alone.
