(Photo : youtube) The brewing dispute between Russia and Turkey could affect the relationship between the former and NATO. Russian President Vladimir Putin insists that the Russian pilots did not violate any airspace rules before they were shot by Turkish soldiers.
Following the recent downing of a Russian jet by Turkey at the Syrian Border, NATO is calling for an emergency meeting with its 28 allies. Russia's President Vladimir Putin has said that the pilot of Russian fighter jet Su-24 did not violate airspace rules as Turkish authorities claim. As tension continues to rise, CNN took a brief review of how Russia has abided with NATO's peace keeping agreement since the time of cold war in 1940's up to the 1990's.

During the so called "Cuban Missile Crisis" in 1962, the world witnessed how delicate diplomacy was practiced between NATO and Russia to avoid further nuclear production that may lead to another conflict.
In 1970's and 1980's, more tension and disputes arose due to deployment of explosive and nuclear weapons in Western Europe and Afghanistan. This peace-threatening condition was resolved with a reconciliation for the sake of citizen.
After many decades of maintaining diplomacy and peace, it seems that Turkey's conflict with Russia, which Pres. Putin called as "stab at the back", could revive the conflict between the Kremlin and NATO.
NATO has vowed to fight with its allies. "As we have repeatedly made clear, we stand in solidarity with Turkey and support the territorial integrity of our NATO ally, Turkey," Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said during an emergency meeting on Tuesday with the allied country.
The Obama administration has declared support for Turkey. The US defended Turkey's decision to shoot down the Russian plane last Tuesday after repeated warning. The incident resulted in the deaths of two pilots.
"Turkey had a right to defend its airspace " Obama said in a statement following the incident. The US president said he is looking forward to having more talks with the leaders, specifically with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for a clearer view of the situation and how to restore diplomacy again.
