Do you place your hairband around your wrist? A woman from Louisville is suffering from severe infection after wearing a hair tie on her wrist.

According to Daily Mail, Audrey Kopp from Louisville is fond of wearing hairband around her wrist. However, it didn't turn out normal when three bacterial infections appeared on her hand.

Kopp first noticed a red lump after moving in to a new house. At first, Kopp thought that it could just be a spider bite and not from the hair tie.

"I didn't believe it at first, I thought that it was a spider bite or something else, not from wearing a hair tie," she told WLKY News.

It was until the red lump grew bigger and bigger that she decided to consult their family doctor. She was prescribed antibiotics, however it continued to grow.

According to Huffington Post, she decided to go to the local accident and emergency clinic where the doctors found out that she got three bacterial infections.

Kopp has undergone a surgery to treat the infections. The glittery hair tie she often wears on her wrist is believed to have caused the infection. According to the doctors, the bacteria from the hair band transferred to a tiny cut she had prior to the infection, explaining that it is easy for the bacteria to transfer to the body through pores and hair follicles.

The surgery left Kopp with a large open wound on her arm, but according to her doctors, she is recovering well.

The experience had also prompted Kopp to warn other people through Facebook saying, "'I want to inform everyone to make sure no one else has to go thru this."

Dr. Amit Gupta, one of the doctors who treated Kopp, also warned people to be careful when wearing hairbands around their wrists.

"Be careful, you can't put all these hair ties around wrists, they can cause problems with the skin, with infections," the doctor said.
