G.E.M. Tang's Concert: Big Flop in London, Tickets Given Out for Free

G.E.M. Tang's Concert Big Flop In London, Tickets Already Free

(Photo : Getty Images) Singer-song writer G.E.M. is in trouble with the media after rumors of her being disrespectful.

Chinese singer-songwriter G.E.M. Tang gained popularity in 2008 due to her high vocal range. The singer recently announced the conclusion of her 73rd concert world tour and expressed gratitude to her team and fans for making the tour a success.

But reports indicate that G.E.M.'s London concert was not a hot sell. Promoters resorted to give out the tickets for free as a way to market the performance and boost sales, according to Lollipop SG.

A netizen revealed that the ticket was indeed given for free but there was an additional £2.50 (RMB 32.00) surcharge for taxes.

The tickets were reportedly handed out for free on an online Chinese forum. This was done by organizer to prevent any turnout that was lesser than expected.

Despite the dissemination of free tickets, the audience was allegedly not large enough to fill the entire hall. There were a lot of empty seats.

G.E.M. has denied reports that her London concert was a huge bomb and even calls the allegation a 'joke.'

"There's proof for you!" said G.E.M, who said that her world tour has garnered a total attendance of 800,000 people over the past two years.  This estimated number is based on 73 of her shows in 79 countries, according to Asian Buzz.

In response, a fan uploaded a photo of the ticket showing the actual cost, which was £0 before the mandatory £2.50 tax was added.

The fan added that the singer did not tell the truth and the price of the ticket was £0.

"We issued no such tickets, and all our tickets had been sold," said G.E.M.'s concert promoter.

Sources from the industry have pointed out that Chinese musical artists performing overseas face a great challenge of drawing a huge audience in their concerts. This is due to the fact that only a few locals would purchase a ticket to watch a concert, meaning the main audience for the artists are Chinese nationals abroad.

Li Yundi, a famous Chinese pianist, reportedly allows the price of his concert tickets to be reduced when he conducts a concert overseas.
