Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is breaking the cardinal rules of marketing with its latest offering. OnePlus has announced that will release a case for Apple's iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S.

The Shenzhen-based Android smartphone manufacturer is incorporating its signature sandstone finish into a case that will house its rival's flagship devices. Many analysts think that OnePlus' strategy is a creative way of raising awareness among its rival's customer base.

When asked about what motivated the company to create a case for its rival's devices, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei told TechCrunch that "Although most of my friends have converted to the OnePlus family, there's still a hand full stuck with iPhones. This is for them. I think a lot of OnePlus fans can relate."

The OnePlus-made iPhone cover is unlike any other premium covers for Apple's flagship device. The case sports the ubiquitous sandstone design from OnePlus and it offers a strong grip. The case also feels sturdy and heavy duty compared to other silicon-based cases.

The OnePlus iPhone case will sell for $19.99 in the United States and £15.99 in the United Kingdom. The case is already available on OnePlus' online store and many consider it a unique Christmas present.

The OnePlus iPhone case includes an invite that will allow buyers to purchase the OnePlus X device. This move has led some critics to describe the move as a lame publicity stunt.

Random buyers will get an invite to purchase the rare ceramic version of OnePlus X. According to Engadget, some lucky buyers of the case will actually win the new OnePlus X device for free.

For some tech experts, the OnePlus X is an affordable alternative to expensive iPhone 6S which currently costs $649. On the other hand, the OnePlus X only costs $249.
