Weiland was on tour with his current band, the Wildabouts. The band was set to perform in the Medina Entertainment Center, Minnesota.
"At this time, we ask that the privacy of Scott's family be respected," according to a post in Weiland's official Instagram account.
Weiland, also known as Scott Richard Kline, was born on October 27, 1967 in California.
Weiland was his stepfather's name, who adopted him when he was only five years old.
In the late 1980s, Weiland formed the band, 'Stone Temple Pilots' with brothers Robert and Dean DeLeo. The band went on to release hit songs such as 'Interstate Love Song', 'Plush', 'Interstate Love Song' and 'Vasoline'.
However, this success would be flawed by the band's frequent squabbles.
Stone Temple Pilots officially disbanded in 2002. The band regrouped six years later and reissued the band's album in their 2010 album.
In 2013, Weiland was fired from the band and was replaced by the former Linkin Park frontman, Chester Bennington.
The singer also became a part of the band, 'Velvet Revolver', a group composed of former Guns N' Roses members such as Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum. Their debut album was certified double platinum in the Billboard 200.
Weiland may have shot to fame, but his struggle with drug addiction marred his success. The singer was convicted in 1995 due to conviction of purchasing crack cocaine and had at least two DUIs. Weiland also battled with bipolar disorder.
The former Velvet Revolver frontman is survived by his wife, Jamie Wachtel and two children, Noah and Lucy, from his previous wife, Mary Forsberg.
