In order to take a full 360-degree photo using cardboard, users need to move into a 360-degree circle in order to make sure that the full field of view is taken. When taking panoramic photos, the app also allows users to take audio recordings.
The search giant says that virtual reality photos that are presented in a 3D panorama view will come with a slightly different views for each eye. By presenting images in this way, users can look around in order to explore the images in all directions.
Google announced the release of the app through a blog post, "With Cardboard Camera, anyone can create their own VR experience. So revisit the mountaintop that took hours to hike, or the zoo where you saw (and heard) the monkeys, or your birthday party with the cake out and candles still lit. Capture the moments that matter to you and relive them anytime, from anywhere."
The Cardboard Camera app exclusively supports the Cardboard virtual reality headset. At the moment, the app does not support other virtual reality headsets.
Google is yet to confirm it, but tech analysts are positive that the app will be available for the iOS platform in the future.
For now, the Cardboard Camera app does not support online photo sharing. The photos taken will be stored locally on the user's device. Google promised that it will support online sharing in the future as well as compatibility with other virtual reality headsets, according to Techno Buffalo.
The app can be downloaded for free on the Google Play Store. It currently supports 17 languages.
