Drones to Fly Over Rural Areas Instead of Cities in China

In China, UAV (unmanned aerial vehicles) manufacturers will have to transition from the city to the countryside as restrictions have been intensified on operating drones within the city. The Civil Aviation Administration of China has initiated a provision that would prevent remote-controlled drones from delivering packages to homes or businesses in the city.

According to Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of China, cases of drones getting in the way of an aircraft, or high-voltage power lines being hit by AUVs have been reported in cities across the country.
AOPAC Chief Ke Yubao says, "A collision and crash will compromise the safety of people on the ground."
This initiative has forced drone makers to turn to the rural market. DJI Technology Co, the world's biggest drone maker, which is based in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, is turning its eyes on branding drones for the farming industry.
The company has released its first farm drone that can spray pesticides over up to 4 hectares of land every hour in November. "DJI achieved initial success with an unmanned aerial vehicle product in Europe. We only brought the product to the Chinese market after it gained popularity worldwide," said DJI representative Wang Fan. "For farm drones, however, we are starting with the domestic market," he continued.
Labor shortages in rural areas make this a good business strategy, helping farmers cover more land with fewer workers to do the job.
Based on the data provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, by the end of last year the total area of arable land in te country reached 26.87 million hectares. The new drones would potentially enable about 3.41 million households to operate larger areas of the rural field.
