It is break time for most of the popular American drama series because of the holiday season. They will be returning next year with new episodes. Some shows will be premiering new seasons in January, February or March.

Also, returning next year for a one-off, special episode is BBC's popular series "Sherlock." Set in Victorian era, "Sherlock" special episode airs on Jan. 01, 2016. This episode will air before the filming of "Sherlock" Season 4 begins in spring.

Meanwhile, British period drama series "Downton Abbey" will be airing its final episode this Christmas, Dec. 25 in the U.K. The final season of this series will air in the U.S. on Jan. 03, 2016. 

"Game of Thrones" has booked a spring date to premiere its Season 6. It is set to premiere in April 2016. However, HBO is yet to announce the premiere date.
