Chinese internet security company Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd. is reportedly planning to send its latest smartphone into space on January 1, 2016. Qihoo plans to launch the smartphone with a rocket from China's new and largest space facility, the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center (WSLC), which is located on the country's southern Hainan Island.

With this move, Qihoo will be the first Chinese private company to launch a rocket into orbit, according to South China Morning Post (SCMP).

Once the smartphone reaches space, it is expected to act as a nanosatellite, making use of its high-definition camera to capture images of the earth, among other things.

In addition, experts claim the Chinese company could be planning to also send its recently released Q Terra handset. In terms of the specs, the Q Terra sports a 6.0-inch phablet size display screen with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution (Full HD).

The Q Terra runs on the Android 5.1 Lollipop version operating system along with the customized 360 OS. It has two 13 megapixel rear-facing cameras and an 8 megapixel front-facing shooter.

Under the hood, the Q Terra packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, up to 16GB of built-in memory storage, and a whopping 3,600 mAh battery that can charge up to 100 percent in just 70 minutes, according to the company. The internal memory can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card.

In the meantime, Qihoo added on its official Weibo account that other Chinese phone makers could also have the opportunity to participate in the program sometime in the future.
