Comedienne Bill Cosby filed a countersuit in federal court against seven women whom the star claims made "malicious, opportunistic, and false and defamatory accusations" against him. Cosby is seeking monetary damages.
The seven women, who are among approximately 50 alleged victims, publicly accused him of rape and sexual misconduct that occurred decades ago. Included in the list of victims are former supermodel Janice Dickinson, Lou Ferrigno's wife Carla, and former actress Barbara Bowman.

In the countersuit, Cosby accused the women of engaging in a campaign to assassinate his character, and that their claims are "nothing more than an opportunistic attempt to extract financial gain from him."
The actor's lawyers say that Cosby's career and legacy have been tainted by his accusers and that their defamation lawsuit were intentionally filed just when he was about to return to television to star in a new series on NBC.
Cosby continues to deny the allegations, with his lawyer citing questionable comments made by one of the women, Therese Serignese, to the Huffington Post in Nov. 2014.
Serignese alleges that the comedienne drugged and raped her in 1976, and that her mother had told her after the incident that Cosby would more likely take care of her. The woman also told the publication that she contacted the star in the 1990s to ask for money after getting injured in a car accident.
Joseph Cammarata, a lawyer representing the women, stated that Cosby's countersuit is merely a retaliatory tactic, and that Cosby's suggestion that the campaign against him was orchestrated is "hard to fathom".
