Chinese Products Now of Better Quality, Not Cheap and Shoddy

China's CPI Rises 1.6% In September

Contrary to the widespread negative perspectives of products that are “made in China,” Chinese products nowadays are in demand, and seem to be at par with other brands made in different countries.

For decades, products and merchandise made in China were categorized as low quality. However, nowadays the quality of products that China produces is leveling up.

John Yen, manager of Taipei tech manufacturing company Ndevr corp., said that the days of trying to overtake China in terms of product quality are over.

“They’ve got more resources, more people and the market is bigger,” Yen, whose company manufactures flash drives and data storage products, said. He added that it's really evident.

KGI Securities economist Andrew Tsai couldn't agree more. He said that Chinese brands have attained greater visibility and a larger market share in the recent years.

In fact, China's products are increasingly making an impact in the economy, affecting other countries including Taiwan.

“Taiwan’s brands have suffered some market share loss,” Tsai explained.“There’s definitely an impact from China.”

The growth in Chinese product quality has reportedly come from pressures to compete with international markets.

Analysts say that Chinese manufacturers learn well from outsiders. Chinese firms allegedly learn from copying and reverse-engineering products created abroad, and in-turn find ways to increase the quality of their own products.

Not only that, Chinese workers also learn quickly, according to TAL Group head Roger Lee. TAL Group is a garments manufacturing company based in Hong Kong.

Lee, who has factories in Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia, said that Chinese workers are better educated and can learn faster compared to their counterparts from the other factories.

“Chinese sewing staff learn very well and fast,” said Mr. Lee.

Even Apple CEO Tim Cook recognized the skill of Chinese workers. Cook recently said that Apple's products aren't China-made because it's cheap. He said they are made in China because Chinese workers are skilled.

He said that American workers aren't as widely skilled as Chinese workers are, using an illustration that if all “tool and die” makers in the U.S. are gathered, they will probably fill a small room, compared to China's which will fill multiple football fields.

“Made in China” goods aren't cheap and shoddy anymore, instead they are affordable and of good quality.
