The high-profile Chinese tycoon went missing on 18 Nov. It was reported that there was no way to reach him. With no replacement at hand, the company's shares immediately fell as much as 17 %.
Upon his return to the company, however, Guotai Junan International's shares have surged back 8.1 percent and closed at HK$2.82. Prior to Wednesday's session, the company's shares had fallen 20 percent since late November.
It was reported in November that Yim was taken away by the authorities for "disciplinary violation." This was allegedly in connection with an investigation relating to Zhang Yujun, a top officials at China Securities Regulatory Commission.
In recent months, the government has pursued officials suspected to be corrupt or notorious "short-sellers" in connection with the manipulation of China's stock market prices. The government launched a campaign to fight corruption in the financial sector following a sudden drop in China's stock prices during summer.
In a statement, Guotai Junan International said that it was informed of Mr. Yim's location and status on Tuesday. The company has confirmed that he was "assisting in a certain probe carried out by investigators" during the time no one was able to reach him.
It is the first time that Guotai Junan International has delivered its own account of Yim's disappearance since it was announced they were unable to contact Yim.
The statement said that the company's operations is currently stable and that Mr. Yim would resume his duties as chairman, executive director and chief executive officer as of Wednesday.
No further details were given due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.
