China has passed a law which requires technology companies to present their encryption keys to the authorities when it is requested. This could allow authorities to access the private data of users.
This law was passed in response to the increasing threat of cybercrime. However, U.S. President Barack Obama is not very happy with the terms of this law and has raised concerns with President Xi Jinping.

Earlier this year, Obama voiced worries about the drafted law with China's President Xi Jinping. He said that US is not willing to comply with such a law, unless it is not bent to fit the country's policies.
China's legislature passed this controversial law recently. This bill has faced objections from major tech firms all over the world. Among other things, this new law requires internet companies to provide their encryption keys to the government when requested, without any objection.
Beijing claims that the law is necessary to defend the people and the country against terrorism. However, the decision to provide the Chinese government access to users' private information will not be an easy one for tech companies.
First, users may not accept such terms and condition. Secondly, it may not look very favourable on the Chinese government, even though authorities may be justified in asking technology companies for their encryption keys in order to safeguard the country and restrict chances of cyber-terrorism.
Some analysts feel that this may be a much-needed step in the right direction in curbing cyber-terrorism in China.
